About Smithview Farm

We are located in the rolling hills of North Carolina between Pittsboro and Siler City in the Silk Hope community. Smithview Farm has been in the family since the early 1950s. We were traditionally a tobacco-producing farm with a few cows.

Over the past decade, we became very concerned about healthy eating. We decided in 2010 to specialize in the production of extremely high-quality 100% grassfed (grassfed/grass-finished) Angus beef.

WHERE OUR COWS LIVE

Smithview Farm practices Regenerative Agriculture which is an approach to cattle farming that rejects pesticides, herbicides, artificial fertilizers and aims to "regenerate" topsoil, increase biodiversity, improve water cycles, enhance ecosystems, increase resilience to climate fluctuations and strengthen the health and vitality of farming.

SUSTAINABLE FARMING

One of our top objectives is to grow excellent forage year-round. We do that by understanding the characteristics of the soil, weather conditions, and peak growing seasons for various forages that will produce market-ready cattle.

Good Soil = Good Grass = Good Beef

We meet this objective by practicing regenerative agriculture that rejects pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers. Additionally, we aim to “regenerate” topsoil, increase biodiversity, improve water cycles, enhance ecosystems, increase resilience to climate fluctuations, and strengthen the health and vitality of farming.

CLEAN, FRESH DRINKING WATER

Our steers consume 100% well water ensuring no bacteria from ponds or streams further promoting the health of the animal. Just the addition of fresh, clean drinking water enables a steer to gain as much as 50 lbs. of additional weight during their lifetime. They also have access to their necessary daily minerals.

HOLISTIC TECHNIQUES

Our grazing management utilizes holistic planning techniques to preserve the soil, hold the water and carbon to constantly improve microbial behavior. We are constantly rotating our herd to different pastures with fresh forages to consume. Our steers are raised in a low-stress environment of calm, open pastures feeding on mother's milk and high-quality forages from birth to harvest. They are never confined to crowded, muddy conditions or feedlots.

PERFORMANCE METRICS

With the use of Cattlemax management software, we are able to maintain a complete history of every cow on our farm. We record everything from birth dates, birth weights, average daily gains (ADG) and performance health records. Our customers never have to worry about the history of their beef purchases. We lovingly raise our animals from birth to harvest.
